AI is going to replace some jobs inevitably that is a fact. However, in turn it is also going to create entirely new ones – An exciting prospect. The kind of jobs that didn’t even exist five years ago.
This is not the first-time technology has caused a stir in the workforce. Remember there was a time when people thought the internet would eliminate jobs? This was the case but it also gave rise to entire industries. The exact same thing is also happening now – just at a more rapid rate with machines that can “think.”
So, let’s dive into it. Who’s actually at risk? Who’s in demand? and What does the future of work really look like in the age of AI.
Yes, Some Jobs Are Going Away
AI is fundamentally a productivity machine. It does not get tired, Does not call in sick and It works 24/7.
Naturally it will be replacing jobs that are:
- Repetitive
- Rule-based
- Predictable
The Numbers:
- According to a Goldman Sachs report (2023) AI could automate 300 million full-time jobs worldwide.
- A McKinsey Global Institute study also estimates that 15% of the global workforce may be replaced by automation by 2030.
Roles most at risk:
- Data entry clerks
- Basic customer service representatives
- Retail cashiers
- Paralegals and Legal assistants
- Routine Finance and Accounting roles
But New Jobs Are Being Created
Here’s the good news: AI isn’t just roles. It’s creating entirely new career paths. According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report (2023), AI will disrupt 85 million jobs by 2025 — but also will create 97 million new ones.
Emerging jobs:
- Prompt engineers
- AI trainers and auditors
- AI product managers
- Ethical AI consultants
- Creative technologists using AI tools
OpenAI and other AI companies are already hiring individuals to train and fine-tune (LLM) Large language models such as ChatGPT with human feedback.
The Hybrid Future: AI + Human
The future is not human or machine. It is actually human and machine.
AI handles the automation and data-crunching aspects while, Humans incorporate the context, creativity, empathy, and judgment.
Example:
- In Healthcare, AI helps detect diseases faster than humans – However it does not replace a doctor’s human insight regarding bedside mannerisms and care.
- In Law, tools like Harvey AI are assisting lawyers with key research – not replacing the courtroom strategy.
Who Wins? & Who Loses?
Winners:
- Individuals who learn how to use AI, not fear it.
- Companies who Integrate AI with human creativity.
- Workers who stay curious and adapt to It.
Losers:
- Those clinging to “The way things were in the past”.
- Companies avoiding AI entirely.
- Workers stuck within automatable routines.
A Pew Research Centre study (2023) found workers who had adopted AI tools were more likely to feel optimistic about their job future than those who did not.
In Conclusion – What is the Answer?
Yes, AI will definitely replace jobs there is no doubt or question about it. However, it will also will create jobs in short. The main question is: Will you also evolve with it or are you also trying to compete against it?
The Companies who treat AI as a tool and not as a threat will ultimately be the ones who are going to thrive in the future.
